Video JPEG

NOTE: this plugin is in an alpha state, not all features are implemented or tested. See below to what I know is not tested or working.

This represents the first plugin to use the new video subsystem in XTension making it unnecessary to run the aging Video Pitcher app. This plugin requests individual jpeg frames from any online source and injects them into XTension for display in the XTension video windows, embedding into Views or embedding onto the Web Interfaces. If you need high speed video or full sized recording I recommend using either the built in recording functions inside most cameras themselves or a separate network DVR type system.

The setup is very similar to the Video Pitcher setup of a jpeg refresh camera so I’ll go into more detail of the setup when it’s gotten a bit more testing.

Know that the interface and options in the setup dialogs are going to change significantly prior to the real release.

Time Stamp and Annotations:

Just like Video Pitcher we can add time stamp and annotation information to the video stream but it is done differently. Rather than embedding it into the video itself which causes significant and constant overhead we are instead create a closed captioning track in the video. In order to see the timestamp and any info you have added as to what happened to trigger the recording (see the Record From verb for more info) please hit the closed captioning button in the playback window. You can then position the information anywhere on the screen that is convenient or turn it off but no video is obscured by the information.

Using with the Web Interfaces:

The existing web interfaces will only be able to display video snippets if you save the recorded video into the same folder that Video Pitcher would have created for the video. So select the video storage folder the same as in Video Pitcher, and then create another folder inside that the same name as the video stream and select that as the folder to save the videos to.

Untested Things

The management of disk space is implemented but untested please keep an eye on your disk space if you are recording from this.
