key fobs

The X10 devices and the W800 are both still supported and work very well. When not used through the plugin power line transceivers they are also really fast, at least as fast as any other remote system. When used through those plugin transceivers they are frustratingly slow so don’t go by memory as to what they were like ;) While X10 is not a mesh network, you can add as many W800 receivers in as many places as you need to in order to get full coverage for the area. I am still a fan of the wireless X10 products when used with a network of W800 receivers.

For ZWave fobs anything that supports the ‘central scene’ commands will work well with the Vera and XTension. The reviews of both of those devices that you listed below show they have problems with some other controllers, but both also have reviews that say they work great with the Vera which is the important thing. I normally like Fibaro equioment just fine though it is pricy. I’m not sure about that key fob though, I think I like the look of the Aeotec one better, but i haven’t done any more research than just looking at the pictures on Amazon. I have an aeotect wallmote quad that has been terrific as well as a “Hank” 4 key scene controller which also works just fine with the Vera. Neither is suitable for putting on a keychain though. Just an endorsement for the companies not the specific devices.

And, if I have any transceivers or fobs left, they're in a box I haven't seen in over a decade. So assume I have nothing along those lines.

It's lower frequency should be able to navigate the farm better. I think something around 4 buttons would be ideal (much more and you don't want a key fob), and like idea of click and double click options, with hold and tripple+ click being possible nice to haves.

I'd be looking for two - one for me and one for my wife, mostly for changing "modes" more that directly controlling anything, though there are a couple of gates we might want to motorize so we don't have to get out of the car to get in/out of the driveway at some point down the road...
