I’ve been watching this free certificate site for some time: https://letsencrypt.org
It’s run by the Internet Security Research Group, which apparently has some industry support. I think their goal is to get rid of all unsecured http traffic.
If I could get a definitive answer about reasonably straightforward support for OS X Server, I’d go with it.
