recording camera video

So, being a dummy about all of that, is it true that if I access xtension web remote with an http:// url instead of an https:// url, I’m not using ssl? If that is true, then not using ssl is not working for me to be able to see the archived video in safari. I either have to download the clip, or open an afp window to the extension box and then play the video with quicktime player or vlc or whatever.

It didn’t work for me when I downloaded chrome either, so there could possibly be more failure modes. In my case, it just seems like the video simply fails to load with the player eventually timing out.

I can display other html5 video’s in safari and I don’t have flash installed on my client box.

For whatever security reason Safari (and mobile safari) will happily render and use all the other content that is sent over a self signed certificate but will refuse to do so for movies. Is there some internal argument in it’s development and the different groups are implementing different levels of security? I don’t know. While you would never want to connect to a bank with a self signed cert, you can absolutely tell if you’re connecting to your own and someone is doing a man in the middle attack as long as you’ve already trusted the cert. The browser will tell you that the new one is not trusted anymore and if you didn’t create the new one then someone is messing with you. Otherwise it’s completely adequate for what we’re doing so thats a pain.
