File Sharing issue on Venture ( was:Re: Anyone tried XTension on Ventura?)

Officially I am aware of no issues but I have not yet done extensive testing and I am not yet running my own live house server on it. The main issues will be just remembering what settings you had setup that the updates have broken or changed on you just like what it did to George here!
In my case what got turned off was not file sharing, but the Full Disk Access security setting for the smdb program that provides file sharing under the hood. I didn’t immediately think to look for this as it would share folders off the internal boot drive just fine, but would not share any external drives. it would let me add them to the list of shared folders or drives in sharing. It generated no errors on the server. They showed up as available to mount on remote machines but as soon as you tried to mount one of them you’d get an error that said something about "this cannot be done because the original item cannot be found” Which turned out not to be very helpful ;)
In any case after finding in the security and preferences dialog that smdb was unchecked under full disk access it is all working fine again.
This happened to be just updating the server to Catalina so it is not limited to Venture.
The other potential file sharing issue that you will definitely want to check for after an update is to make sure that guest access is not turned on for your shares, unless you wanted guest access turned on. After the last couple of larger updates this got turned on by default for all my shares. Luckily I don’t share them to the internet as a whole but even so that is alarming. In order to even see that setting you have to control click on each share you have configured in the sharing control panel and select Advanced Settings. In my case each and every one had the checkbox for allow guest access checked!
