Turn on/off light without running the scripts

Here is my issue: I have a room where there is both a smart switch (Z-wave) and a motion detector. What I’m trying to do is if someone manually turns on the light block the motion detector until the light is manually turned off. If the light is off and a person enters the room turn it on and turn it off if no motion is detected. If the light is turned on manually I block the motion detector, and if the light is turned off manually I unblock the motion detector. However, when the motion detector turns on the light the light’s on script is run and blocks the motion detector at this point nothing works until the light is manually turned off.
I had thought that there was a “without script” verb, but looking that the manual I can’t find that. And if I add the “without script” it doesn’t seem to have any effect. I expected that if the “without script” was unknown I’d get an error, I don’t, I remain as usual confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
