Hunter Irrigation Control

The Hunter controller has a weird bit-banged protocol. I have a special Arduino shield, which is no longer available, that I use to interface to it using the Arduino interface. This was a potential alternative.
My XTension scans a shared calendar named Lawn at midnight and schedules events for the various zones. That way my wife (the gardener) can easily change the schedule.

I quickly threw together an arduino on wifi controlling 8 relays that I just got off amazon. I screwed them all to a board which has been sitting on top of the coffee roaster in the garage since then. I meant it as a temporary fix but since it’s been working flawlessly since then I haven’t bothered to rebuild it or finalize the firmware. It has maximum runtimes set for each channel so even if the communication goes away it won’t run forever but other than that just takes on/off from XTension. If people are interested in that firmware I can put it back on the list of stuff to finalize and release as something useful. It’s very inexpensive to get an ESP32 and an 8 channel relay board off amazon to build such a thing.
