Automated Gate Options

Last year James and I worked on a project for my ranch gate that involved a pair of xBee pro radios and a relay to interface with my solar-powered Mighty Mule opener <https://www.homedepot.com/p/Mighty-Mule-Heavy-Duty-Single-Swing-Automatic-Gate-Opener-MM560/207098885>. Unfortunately he got tied up with some other things and it was beyond my technical skills to do alone so we were never able to finish it, but it sure seemed like it would have been an elegant solution.

Going back to the Mighty Mule website tonight I see they now have a “smart opener” available. Depending on your setup that might be an alternative but I assume it would not integrate with XTension (or at least not as easily as the xBees.)

I hope you’ll keep us posted on what you end up doing. I’d still like to do something with mine.

Naturally, I want it to be automated via XTension. I need some suggestions on what openers will be “automatable”. I’ve got geofencing nailed down and am turning on and off lights when we arrive and leave.
