Vera and Inteon

I’m glad to see this thread. My personal experience with Insteon equipment has been that it has a rather short life — especially the USB modem. The last time we had an Insteon modem die, I let the HA software we used die with it, put in an old Vera Lite and z-wave units and now use XTension for everything.
This does cause me a question though: our newest LiveMass location was “wired for Insteon” when they renovated the building. What does that mean? Will there be some benefit or ease of use to use Insteon units instead of Z-wave with a little Vera?
My only issue with Vera is the headache when/if the cable modem/router is switched out. That happened at one of our locations and once I figured out why the Vera was not cooperating with XTension all of a sudden, then I had to go through the headache of changing the IP address in Vera or something. Ultimately I messed up and the entire place was without internet for a while. :-) (It was their own fault for not notifying me that they were changing out the router thing from Frontier.) Bottom line, there will always be other people calling shots which if it involves the router, will affect the Vera. I am not wild about that.
