Incredible Power Usage

I figured that out in my house.
When I moved in there were "original" refrigerator and upright freezer in
the basement. It hit me that they had to be at least 40 years old so in no
way were modern efficient.

ComEd here offers a $50 credit for old appliances if you price they work.
That's part of the federal program that also gives rebates for thermostats
and other energy savers. I sent in both of mine.

I picked up a small chest freezer that has a high EER.

You should get a Kill-A-Watt Wattmeter to track down other energy wasters.

I have the Rainforest  SMCD monitor on my smart meter where I can see that
the TV uses 250 watts and the A/C uses 1200-1400 watts.
