Suggestions for program freezes

I have had two incidents of programs being unresponsive.

One was Weatherman at my main home that was consuming 99% of the CPU and heating up my machine so that the fan was on full blast. I had to force quit it to get back in line. My system depends on this program to get the temperature tomorrow which adjusts the temperature in the house this evening.

Also X4X froze at my vacation home and that is critical for maintaining temperature in the winter. I also had to force quit that to get it back to working status.

Neither program tried to restart on it’s own and had I not checked on the status of the programs I never would have known they had stalled.

I am needing a way to restart both programs which both required a forced shutdown and then start both of them up again.

Does anyone have a solution I could benefit from so that I don’t have to start from scratch.
