I did it, and, too, was disappointed by the shortness of the list. I've a bevy of Airport Expresses, and ATVs that show on various lists, but seemingly not available to XT. I know that it is a MacOS shortcoming. Some day. Yes, I know that I could manipulate the System Sound output destination, but it's not exactly what I think that I want; the key there being 'what I THINK that I want.'
