Vera UI 7

If you have a Plus then your Vera has UI7. It’s XTension that was using the older connection protocol. Even the newer Veras still support the older protocol for the moment. So you’ve been talking ot your units via the older protocol while your Vera and now XTension is capable of using the new one. Vera isn’t updating the old one anymore nor fixing any more bugs in it so if you want to be able to do the newer ZWave plus things or support any of their newer features you have to switch to the newer protocol.
It’s in XTension that you need to update to the new interface to use the new protocol. As far as most things you shouldn’t see any difference between the 2. If you want to do things like Central Scene devices for getting local changes and other actions from switches and newer scene controllers, or use any thermostat with newer features then you’ll need to update your settings in XTension. Nothing has to change in the Vera at all.
There is only one pain free path for converting an original Vera setup in XTension to the new protocol. Please have a look at the conversion process on the wiki page about it here:
http://machomeautomation.com/doku.php/supported_hardware/veraui7#converting_an_existing_vera_interface
If you have any questions or concerns about that drop me a note off the list and I’ll help you through it. It’s not a big deal but the addressing scheme for the new interface is very different than the old one so every unit requires some editing of address and device type to make them work on the new interface. You could do this by hand in a small setup, but with larger ones just let the XTension conversion process do it for you.
