Oops. Tom Arman pointed out that the IP address had an extra ‘.’ in it. It appears that was the problem.
Thanks Tom.

I got real busy over the summer and had to abandon work on the Wiznet/CM-11 interface. I have finally
gotten around to it again.
I fixed some stuff, but I still can’t get the CM-11 talking to Xtension.
My network address was wrong. Since I am on cable internet now, my local network is 10.0.1.x.
Once I fixed that, I am able to talk to the board:
———————————————————————————————————————————

I can type on the Mac and the characters show on the screen, but I do not see any TXD light on my breakout box.
I can see the RXD light flicker when the ‘?’s come in. I tried two different CM-11s. Also swapped TXD & RXD with the break-
out box. No change.

Here is what Xtension reports when I try to enable the interface:
http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af26/highcountryrider/2016-09-24%20145903%20-07001_zpsknddipus.png <http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af26/highcountryrider/2016-09-24%20145903%20-07001_zpsknddipus.png>
I also see this oddity in Xtension:
I removed the old configurations, leaving only these:
http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af26/highcountryrider/2016-09-24%20152653%20-07001-1_zps5ncox1ry.png <http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af26/highcountryrider/2016-09-24%20152653%20-07001-1_zps5ncox1ry.png>
But they still appear under Interface Status.
(TCP was a previous attempt at TCP-serial, SHOP was a direct wire that failed,
due to the cable length I think.)

Not sure if that means anything or not.
I’m running:

I’m still not getting the board to telnet. You’re right that I have to get that working first. It seems odd to me that the Configurator can talk to the board, but telnet can’t.
I can’t see anything wrong with the configuration, but here are window captures of the setup, maybe I missed something.
http://s990.photobucket.com/user/highcountryrider/library/WIZ110SR <http://s990.photobucket.com/user/highcountryrider/library/WIZ110SR>
The firewall on my Mac is turned off, I use the one in the Airport, so I don’t think that should be a problem.
I’m still getting the same results:
Mac-mini:~ bill$ telnet 192.168.11.2 5000
Trying 192.168.11.2...
telnet: connect to address 192.168.11.2: Operation timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
It looks like the problem is not in Xtension, but I did upgrade to version 7 (build 854), which is as far as I can go on the Xtension Mac Mini, 10.7 will not install on that machine. :(
Any ideas?
Bill.

Do you think upgrading to the current XTension version will fix it? (I’m still a little traumatized from the Yosemite upgrade on my main Mac, but I can get 10.7 from Apple for a small fee. I’d feel okay about risking that.) ;)

The Wiznet card should work for the CM11. I have a very vague memory that we had a bug about remote connections to it that was fixed a long time ago though I don’t see any notes about that in my release notes. What XTension version are you running, it’s got to be an early one since you’re running 10.6?
For the wiznet to work it has to be set to “server” mode and not client or mixed mode. There WAS a bug in the first version of the configurator that could set those backwards, so make sure you have the most recent version of that and reprogram it if there is a question.
the error message you’re getting “unable to open a socket for the CM11” seems to indicate to me that the wiznet card either isn’t in server mode or that the IP address and network settings have gotten confused. Thats a different error than what you’d get if the network connection was successful but the CM11 can’t communicate due to a serial wiring problem, that would be a timeout from the CM11 or a CM11 is not responding error.
Once you’ve verified the network settings and the server mode if XTension still doesn’t want to connect you can also try telnetting to the wiznet card from the terminal to verify that it’s accepting connections. From the terminal you can “telnet ipaddress port” it wont send anything initially and you can’t send anything to it, but you should see 4 or so garbage characters in the window when it receives an X10 signal. That would verify that it was actually accepting the connection and sending data, then we can figure out why we can’t get XTension to talk to it.

Step one would be to make sure you’re using the latest version of the wiznet configurator. There were several things early on that could have caused the server mode to be set wrong, or the TCP/UDP mode to be set wrong. Given that you can’t get a telnet connection to the thing either I”m hoping this is all the problem is. The latest version was v2 and you can download it fresh from:
Wiznet Configurator MacOS Universal <http://sentman.com/files/wiznetconfiguratormacos.zip>
It should say “V2” in the title bar of the main window.
Verify the server mode, and the TCP/UDP connection mode in that version and re-save to the board and test again with the telnet.
The “Address” and “remote host” are confusing ;) But thats because it can be both a server and a client. The Address is the address of the card itself. If in server mode that is the address that XTension must connect to. The Remote Host and it’s associated port and settings are the connection that the wiznet card would try to make an outgoing connection to IF it was being a client connecting to a remote server. We really should support this mode, but at the moment we do not. XTEnsion makes only outgoing connections to interfaces with one exception for something that doesn’t support any other way.
the “mixed” mode will accept a connection but will periodically try to open a connection to a server, if it can’t connect to the server, then there is a short time when you can connect to it, so it may work intermittently in that case.
Also make sure the timeout is set to 0 for no timeout. This shouldn’t really be a problem with the CM11 as it’s chatty, but for other things that can cause the connection to drop.
If it comes to deciding that the CM11 driver in XTension is to blame then we can try upgrading just that into the package, it MAY be able to run on 10.6 even though the user interface portion of XTension cannot anymore. That isn’t hard to do and is worth a try. But if telnet can’t make a connection then XTension won’t be able to either. We’ve got to sort that out first.

Sorry, if this is obvious to you ...
Did you try a ping to the wiznet first, to verify it's on the network and your Mac can reach it?
Are you running any firewall like Little Snitch that may block telnet? (I know. One should ignorevthe local LAN. Just thinking.)

MacOS version and XTension version is unlikely to be the problem at this point.
I’ve just done some experimenting with one of my boards here on the desk and I have had some trouble with it not always accepting configuration changes. When it doesn’t accept them it’s in some kind of fugue state that keeps it from accepting any connections, but at the same time it no longer shows up in the list of available wiznet cards either. You have to power cycle it to get it back and then re-send any changes.
is your network really starting with 192.168.0.11.xxx? Thats the default setup for the wiznet so that it can live on other networks without causing an address conflict and the configurator can find it even on that network. But what is the address range of the rest of the devices on your network? While that address range would work if you used the .11 on all your machines, it’s very unusual and not the default for any router or modem device that I’m aware of. It’s not in the accepted range of shared network settings. So I’m suspicious that might be the problem?
Apart from that the screen shots look good.
Are you powering it with a 5v or a 12v adaptor? Mine doesn’t like 12v, the regulator on the board gets very hot.

Sorry, thats 192.168.11.xxx
The reason I’m suspicious of that is that it’s the default startup address range for the wiznet, but not likely to be anybodies real network. Because the netmask is 255.255.255.0 it will try to route any TCP packets that need to reach it out to the internet instead of to the device on the local network. The discovery and programming are done via a UDP broadcast which is always limited to the local subnet, so it can reach a card that is on a different subnet as far as the TCP configuration is concerned while the TCP connection for the actual data stream cannot.
Whats the network range of the devices on your network for real? I suspect it’s going to be 192.168.0.xxx which is the default for any shared network address?
