A wonderful interface indeed.
What about the timeout being a property of units that are on this type of interface? Probably two: off state ping retry and ON state ping retry delay.

That way we can fine-tune ourselves. I can live with a particular server being off-line for 30 mins, while another should be reachable within 30 secs.

Or can we do this already with scripting?
