speaking of ad hoc systems, I found these while searching for wind sensors
http://moderndevice.com/product/wind-sensor-rev-p/ <http://moderndevice.com/product/wind-sensor-rev-p/> - a low speed sensor that works with Arduino good for sensing breath or HVAC duct output at a reasonable price
http://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=36&doc_id=1319266 <http://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=36&doc_id=1319266> - an ultrasonic wind sensor with no moving parts, also Arduino. Note there’s a commercial version from Gill, but the comments just say “expensive”.
Something to do when I retire…
I’ve had WeatherTracker running for a number of years with a Radio Shack WM-918 wired weather station (retired due to a lightning strike) and a WMR-200 wireless station. Both have worked fine and the application runs pretty much without issues for months. On an earlier versions, i did see the occasional crash, but the latest version seems to be pretty stable.
For other ideas for WeatherTracker… I don’t know if the console(s) can determine if batteries are low in the sensors, but a nice feature would be an indication that data are not being updated from each sensor. That way, you could tell what batteries you need to change.
