Thanks James, but I'm not going to make it that easy for you ;-) and leave everything untouched for proper debugging 8-)
Meanwhile I have followed Michael's advice and upgraded through 854 to the latest and the greatest.
Now the mac is occupied  by the SO (it also runs eyetv) so first thing in the morning I'll go through your suggestions and reactivate the Barix to see what the latest Xtension release does.
