I use radioshack scanner antennas in my attic connected to the W800's. Their peak performance is right around the frequency of X10 stuff so they work great. They are rather more expensive than just a strip of wire the proper length. The w800's actually ship with a simple wire antenna that is the proper size and works fine too.

the proper length for a quarter wave antenna at 310mhz is 9 1/16" for a half wave it's 18 1/8" and a full wave is 36 1/4"
