Q. I have the Apple USB Modem but under Mavericks I cannot get it to work. What's wrong?

Q. I use to use my Mac as a fax machine. This option seems to have disappeared from System Preferences. Can I use my computer for faxes?

A. The Apple USB Modem is not supported by Mavericks as the USB modem is a 32-bit device (and Mavericks is 64-bit) so fax options have been removed from the system. You will need to obtain a Mavericks compatible third party modem and/or fax software. Possible alternatives are:
Use an online fax service:
eFax iOS app also available
MyFax iOS app also available
Popfax iOS app also available
InterFAX
Modems:
Zoomtel 3095 Buy it now at
Fax software:
unknown at this point - check back for updates
I have a PPC Mac running OS9 to manage my YoYo, mostly offline with it set to ignore telemarketers. This looks like a replacement if it works with other modems.

As you can see, the hardware recognizes the modem, but does not configure it. I am wondering if there is not some piece of software, file or extension that I can copy from the Pro to the mini that would make it work again.
