Aeon Labs z-wave micro switches

I ordered a couple of the Aeotec Micro Smart switches by Aeon Labs. The “Smart” part is apparently they can report kWh usage over time.

I was very disappointed to find that they require a momentary switch for local control. This means that if you use a regular wall switch, but you have to turn it on, then off in order for the Aeotec switch to turn on the light. Then, you have to turn the wall switch on and then off to turn off the light. I was hoping for a more elegant way to use standard wall switches with Z-wave, but no go.

I guess these would be fine where you don’t need local control very much. And, they are very small. Unless you have a lot of wires in the electrical box, they fit nicely.

If you box is sloppy or excessively wired then you may need to clean it up a little. but here is a pic of a duel switch same physical size of a single switch in a double gang box.
